The hymn that greatest describes All Saints’ Day hymn and invitations us to recollect the Saints who’ve gone earlier than us is one I first realized in school. Initially it had 11 verses however now we primarily sing 5.

For all of the saints, who from their labours relaxation,
who thee by religion earlier than the world confessed,
thy Title, O Jesus, be ceaselessly blessed.

Thou wast their Rock, their Fortress and their Would possibly;
thou, Lord, their Captain within the properly fought battle;
thou, within the darkness drear, their one true Gentle.
Alleluia, Alleluia!
O might thy servants, devoted, true and daring,
Try because the saints who nobly fought of previous
And win with them the victor’s crown of gold.
Alleluia, Alleluia!
O blest communion, fellowship divine!
we feebly battle, they in glory shine;
all are one in thee, for all are thine.1

From earth’s large bounds, from ocean’s farthest coast,
by means of gates of pearl streams within the numerous host,
and singing to Father, Son and Holy Ghost:2

Although Devil breaks our darkish glass into shards
Every shard nonetheless shines with Christ’s mirrored gentle,
It glances from the eyes, kindles the phrases
Of all his unknown saints. The darkish is brilliant
With quiet lives and regular lights undimmed,
The witness of those we shunned and shamed.
Plain in our sight and much past our seeing
He weaves them with us within the internet of being
They stand beside us whilst we grieve,
The lone and left behind whom nobody claimed,
Unnumbered multitudes, he lifts above
The shadow of the gibbet and the grave,
To triumph the place all saints are identified and named;
The gathered glories of His wounded love.
